Default Google Webmaster tools - can it help with duplicate content?
Hi there

Suppose you have two websites with almost identical content - but you need to keep them separate because one of them targets US audience, and the other is international.

Does anybody know how you can use your Google Webmaster Tools account to tell Google what's going on, so that they don't penalize one of the websites for duplicate content?

Thanks.

Well, hope still there is no any functionality which guides you about the duplicate content in your web page. Infact after the launch of Panda updates Google should try to include duplicate content issue in their web master tools as this is considered to be one of the top most problem of many webmasters. Yes Google Webmaster conveys you about the duplicate title tag and meta description.

I would make sure the title and description tags designates the intended audience. Do the same in the content emphasize the differences in the target markets.. Hopefully this will be enough to avoid the panda effect.

It would be foolish to run two websites with the same content when its easy enough to make them different! I would make sure the title and description tags designates the intended audience. Do the same in the content emphasize the differences in the target markets.. Hopefully this will be enough to avoid the panda effect.

Post Re:
In my opinion website's duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar. Mostly, this is not deceptive in origin. Google Webmaster Tools only provide you with detailed reports about the visibility of your pages on Google. I hope this helps.
