Default So Who's Responsible?
What if I take a credit card for a purchase and I've made sure the driver's license information checks out, etc. and it winds up being a stolen credit card. Do I have to shoulder the entire financial burden for the merchandise bought?

I think it just depends. I would think for the most part it the burden would be on you financially. They wouldn't charge the credit card holder but you would pretty much be on the hook.
