Default Knowing The Signs of Legitimate Websites
Scam websites are all over the internet nowadays. But knowing the signs of legitimate websites will help you determine if a site is safe or not. I will list some of the signs to look in a legitimate website.

A.) https - check the website if it starts with https. This means that the website is secure and any information you place there is also secured.

B.) locked icon - in Firefox and Internet Explorer, there is a feature that will show a locked icon on the lower right corner of the screen. This means that the site is also secure.

C.) BBB and VeriSign symbol - these 2 symbols mean that the website or company have registered legally and that having these signs mean that they are safe with online transactions. If you're doubting about a website that has these symbols, you can check BBB website or VeriSign if they really are legitimate.

Just remember that prevention is always better than cure.

Thanks for the info, Avendor. I am still not clear about this https. What differs it from "http"? Is there any third party that guarantees its security?

Https simply means that the site is secure. Any information you enter in that website will remain in that website and won't be leaked out.

There are technical explanations about https but to summarize it, both you and the website having https have certificates that needs to be verified in order for the encrypted information to pass between you.

About the third party, yes there is a third party that verifies if the certificates are validated.

Scam website usually have little or no contact information if there is not address, phone number or email address stay well clear as these types of site will take your money and run. Also look out for unorganized website full of spelling mistakes as these sites may have been thrown together over night.
Do some research via search engines about the product and company you are interested in more often than not you can find some real reviews which can give good insight into what your about to purchase. Also get some background information on the company you are dealing with.
Make sure the site you intend to deal with is Pay-pal verified, All legit websites are Pay-pal VERIFIED. Never send money to someone who's UNVERIFIED.
