A wire transfer is a real-time method of transferring immediate funds and supporting information between two financial institutions and is relatively expensive to use. An ACH is similar to a wire transfer only it uses a batch- process. Wire transfer are more expensive than ACH transfer.

Well, a great question you have written above. This question confuse many of people, I think both are very different services, ACH is an electronic funds transfer service, this is so fast, less time taking and convenient that's way people prefer for ACH.

In addition to the comments listed above, it's important to point out that ACH transfers are generally available in the US only, though an International ACH Transfer (IAT) does exist (but used an alternate format of payment).

ACH processes large volumes of credit and debit transactions in batches. ACH credit transfers include direct deposit payroll and vendor payments.
